Tobias is right.xelatex useS truetype or open type fonts.

Here I can compile the OPs LyX-file mb.lyx using non-TeX fonts with
xelatex (converter LaTeX -> XeTeX: xelatex $$i), so perhaps xelatex is
not installed?
