Hi Scott, Sorry for slow response (I needed to go out for lunch, and it was a very hot day, so I stayed out without lugging my laptop along...). -- Great -- your suggestion works! 1. Mark the text: I put the cursor at the end of the line prior to the chapter I wanted to branch. Then selected the entire chapter. 2. Next, I inserted this into a Branch. *Unfortunately*, this "flattens" the structure, i.e., removes section assignments. 3. I clicked into the branched text, and re-assigned the chapter to the relevant paragraph.
NOTE: I have not checked what happens if... - there are sections and subsections, etc. in the selected chapter - what happes if there are theorem-like units, program listing, lists, etc. - if there are remarks, etc. If all of the above is "flattended" out, that would be a "major" downside to using Branching to me. I notice that if I have a Branch and right-click and choose "Dissolve inset", that also removes section assignment, etc., which again is a major downside: if I finally am happy with the text I have in the Branch inset, I want to be able to take the text "out" of the Branch without ruining the strucgture. Thus, I think it would be much better if all these structural elements are kept when "dissolve inset". -- If some developer could figure out how to keep all the above structural elements when marking text as a branch (and when dissolving the inset), that would be great! Also, I have not checked what happens if I mark several different paragraphs as a Branch with the same name (the user manual uses the case of Exam solution as an example). - If I make the branch active, does that activate all branches which has the same name? -- A final suggestion: perhaps it might be ok to also right-click on sections in the Table-of-contents outline and Branch sections? -----Original Message----- From: lyx-users <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Scott Kostyshak Sent: Saturday, July 5, 2025 6:35 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: LyX: making sections conditional? I think I might have a patch I am using locally where chapter is not converted to standard (in this example). Should I figure out which one?
