Thanks! Works well on Ubuntu 24.04 although the (apt command) additional
recommended package did not have an installation candidate on my system.

To answer the questions, after adding the PPA it is necessary to select
the package among those listed in the PPA description. They can coexist
including with distribution version. They have different build suffixes
and thus config directory. The stable one is lyx-2.5 with config
directory ~/.lyx-2.5. Simply adding the PPA should not result in
altering the existing installation.
