I used to write with LaTeX, using xemacs/auc-tex, and switched to LyX
for two reasons:
1) because the LyX interface is less off-putting to others who were
migrating from troff/groff or PC word-processors; and
2) because when you're writing a novel or trade book, the WYSIWYM
display in LyX is more conducive to writing productivity than
the cluttered screen of Lamport and Knuth constructs in LaTeX.
This is one of those instances where a clean front-end is often more
productive than the purity and power of raw code.
