The reason I posted this to the lyx list was that I know there are many who
use lyx as the tool for producing publishable works. I am using lyx to write
my journal articles as well as my thesis. I had thought/hoped someone in the
list might provide suggestions on an app (not xfig - xfig doesn't work, I've
tried many times) that will produce vector graphics AND tables which will
contain graphic elements like lines and arrows amongst the text. The figures
and tables I produce are to be presented to the publisher as eps files, not
as part of an internal lyx table function.

The problems I am having has to do with trying many possible linux graphics
tools/vector graphics tools to produce a table with the same ease as Freehand
or Illustrator or CorelDraw offers. Instead, I have fought and struggled all
day long (literally) to try to produce a usable/publishable/acceptable table
incorporating text and vector graphics elements to no avail. I finally
hopped on to a lab iMac and made the table up in 10 minutes with Freehand. I
would like NOT to have to do that in the future. I would like to rely on my
computer running linux.
