Sounds like a bug of the X server. Please give more information about your system (I assume it is linux): * distribution (and version) * Version of Lyx (where have you installed it from) * version of XFree * Do you use any special XFree drivers? * Have you made any important softaware update to your system (update of XFree, update of glibc, etc.?) Generally I'm not sure that this is the right place for that kind of problem (as it seems a problem of the X server).
