I checked, whether latex supports hyphenation in my specific language: Have a look at Menu View->Latex LogFile This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (Web2C 7.3.1) (format=latex 2000.12.27) 27 DEC 2000 21:09 **test.tex (test.tex LaTeX2e <1999/12/01> patch level 1 Babel and hyphenation patterns for american, british, french, german, n german, nohyphenation, loaded. so that is ok Before I do the piecewise checking which will take me quite some time (540 pages, 370 figures) I would like to ask the wizzards: Does it mean, if there is just one or a few english marked words or references or footnotes or figures or whatever, that hyphenation is done in english (or whatever, since Sch- werkraft doesnt seem to be a reasonable english hyphenation pattern..) ? > How did you do the translation. No I started a new lyx document with German setting, but pasted most of the english stuff including figures, tables, references (pybliographic .bib file), footnotes etc into it, because it is much work to do it all from scratch. My impression is, that at the moment Lyx is not very friendly to translators. I am not sure whether there are others who used Lyx the way I did and what their experiences are and whether and how they managed. Would appreciate a feedback. The easiest way is probably (as Herbert suggested to me) to check the lyx file with a decent texteditor for \lang english or similar ones (there are other expressions with english for special cases such as tables (a nightmare), quotes.. However, in the more complicated cases it is for the laymen difficult to decide whther it can be removed without harm. What I am aiming at is: Could one not "reset" the whole document to German, e.g. by a kind of "superreset" which in an intelligent way takes also care of the more complicated or hidden english lang-settings. Than one could simply set back the few cases where english is needed such as in quotations etc. Thanks again for your help Wolfgang
