  The trial-and-error experience I gained. :-)

  Block the group that you want nested and apply the command to those alone.
I don't have LyX running at the moment, and it's been a while since I did
this, but the key is to block each sub-list and nest them individually.
Boring and not terribly efficient, but there it is.
