I hate to admit it, but this is one area where M$-windows is superior to
unix-and-friends. When I was still using M$ Word (~5yrs ago), I remember that
antialiased (true-type) fonts looked good on all scales, from tiny to huge.
By comparison, scalable font rendering in unix/linux is lousy. Even at larger
sizes, the fonts look like little subpixel-sized insects have been nibbling
on them. Maybe Apple have done sg. about it for the pretty-blue mac-os-X.
Anyone with a mac-os-X box out there?

I suggest you leave that "Rescale bitmap fonts" button unchecked and stick to
nice fixed size bitmap fonts.
