I have yet to fix the problem of invisible fonts using LyX-1.3.2, xforms
version. In fact, I just broke my office machine.

As I had related originally, my problems began with version 1.3.1, but
_not_ when I upgraded my lyx, rather when I updated my OS.

But attention was focused on LyX, perhaps in tightening up some dialog
boxes, or particular X settings.

Today, however, I finally updated my office machine's OS. Now the same
fonts are invisible on it. So, it must be due to some X font changes in
my system.

OS: Debian testing (X86). Originally installed in late '02. Updated
to current fonts within the last 2-3 months. Those running debian will
know; I just did a apt-get update, apt-get upgrade. All the rest is
pretty standard.

It is clear that the appearance of several fonts have changed with this
update -- in fact, I will have to change the font on my mailreader since
the one I have has become too small to be comfortable with.

What I want to know is what fonts are used by the dialogue boxes in lyx
that have become invisible. The boxes that disappeared are, for
example, when you go to Filie -> Save As, the boxes that contain the
current filename, directory, and pattern are blank. All user-editable
dialog boxes are blank now. I can type in them, and the changes will
take effect (for better or worse, since I am typing on instrument flight
rules), but no characters appear.

Maybe these fonts are no longer provided? Maybe I could alias something
to them, or add a package to get them back?

BTW, I tried the Qt front-end. I could not get it to compile properly
and gave that up after a period of frustration. I got close, but no
cigar. My Qt installation was again from debian. I then tried the easy
way -- just get the debian lyx-qt package. That worked, except many
symbol fonts did not display. I recall seeing some discussion about
that, but the solution was unclear to me. In doing this I also had to
re-install opera, a RPITA, since when I installed lyx-qt it insisted on
removing my existing opera.

Are you moving away from the xforms front end? If so, I will try to
make the qt frontend work. Pointers to help on that would be
appreciated, but I know that is a vague question.
