Apparently bibtex wants the bst file in /usr/local/share/texmf/bibtex/bst
Which isn't mentioned anywhere in any docs I could find! I figured it
out by looking at the /usr/share tree.

You'll also note that none of those links mentions needing to create a
bibtex directory. I did find and read both of those. The process they
describe is wrong (or out of date) and doesn't work.
