Hi all,
compared to LyX 1.3.6 which I used before, the new version is
_quite_ slow for me in rendering documents with a fair amount of
graphics and formulas (talking about a 10page document with maybe
15 200K-eps-files) and some formulas.
Already when opening the document, the CPU load goes to maximum,
and LyX into "not responding" (Spinball) mode for a couple of
seconds. Scrolling in the document becomes painfull, as it takes
forever, with spinballs inbetween.
LyX 1.4.0 for Mac on PB G4 (1,5GHz, 1GB RAM), fully patched Tiger.
It seems to me as if the scheduling for rendering the formulas and
generating the graphic-previews was changed, with a side effect of
decreasing responsiveness.
I know that all this heavily depends on many external programms (I
updated Fink recently). So: anybody else observing this? Ideas how
to speed it up again?
I like the new features in 1.4 (!!!), so I wouldn't be happy to
move back again...
There are performance problems on Mac. (I've just updated the wiki
page -- <http://wiki.lyx.org/LyX/LyXOnMac> to reflect the
announcement of 1.4, and this is one of the issues I mention there.)
For me, what's most annoying with LyX/Mac 1.4.0 is working in insets
like footnotes: typing and editing is quite slow. Scrolling speed is
also an issue.
There is a preliminary patch for this issue that is currently
undergoing testing, and we are trying to make other speed
improvements as well.
