Here's what I have in the untarred directory from yesterday:

I just downloaded the .bz2 version from the Web site and the .tar.gz
version directly from the ftp server. When I view the files ('tar tjvf
lyx-1.4.0.tar.bz2 | less' and 'tar tzvf lyx-1.4.0.tar.gz | less'), I see the
development/, boost/, and other directories. So, without untarring either
one, I am confident that they would unpack to the same directory structure as
above.
What do you see when you untar one of them?
