This *shouldn't* be required. I can type accents in LyX just like I can in any other application on Mac (with the exception that when I hit <option>-e initially in LyX, I don't see the acute accent appearing above the cursor as is normal for other applications, though when I hit the second e (without the <option> key), I get the "é" character).
This is very cool (I'm relatively new to Macs, so I didn't know about this input method). But it doesn't work for me, either. Details below.
The question, then, is why you aren't able to do that. What language are you using? What keyboard? ... What else might be different about your system from mine -- a standard US-English installation -- that might explain this?
First, I tested it, and it works in TextEdit (the generic Mac RTF/txt editing tool), exactly as you describe. Doesn't work in LyX at all--no accent appears, vowel or no vowel. My system is Intel Mac OS 10.4.8. I use the standard US-English keyboard and sometimes a Russian keyboard (switch using the standard system options, Settings>International>Input Menu). I use a customized LyX key binding file, though. The contents of the file are as follows: ------------------------------------------------------------------------- \bind_file aqua.bind \bind_file mac.bind \bind "C-y" "layout NumberedExamples" \bind "C-~S-a" "layout SubExamples" ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't think either my custom bind file or aqua.bind or mac.bind are responsible for this behavior, though. I just tried aqua.bind and mac.bind in turn instead of my custom.bind file, and the option+e method of inputting accents still doesn't work. Bruce? Maria
