Hello Georg, hello Curtis,

thank you very much for the kind help.
Unfortunately it still does not work.
So just to get this right. What I include in LyX via Insert->File- >External material is the original Xfig file .fig and not some .latex file which I exported in Xfig!? Now, when I do this and include the .fig file in my document and then try to run pdflatex I get an error saying 'Empty output file was created'. Also, if I tick 'Show in LyX' when I include the .fig file, the figure does not show up. What am I doing wrong? Probably it is something really simple which I should know myself...Sorry I'm a beginner.
Thanks.

Philipp

Hello,

thanks for your quick reply.
Basically this is what I have done, although instead of Insert-
External I used File->Import->Latex (Plain).

Don't use that for xfig figures.

I don't have Insert->External in my LyX version, which is 1.4.3, run
on a Mac. Is what I have done equivalent to what you suggest?

No. I cited the menu from memory and was wrong, the correct one is rather
Insert->File->External material.

Probably I did not make this clear in my first post, but I can't
actually create a final document with the changes I made to the file,
because I get the error which I described earlier.

If you do what I suggested you will not get errors (of course this assumes
that you did not enter invalid LaTeX in xfig text fields).
