I think that this was a bogus statement by me. I later noticed that the line "\force_paint_single_char false" had accidentally been inserted into the preferences file in a place that I had not noticed, so when I thought I had deleted it or commented it out, the spurious entry was still in the file. My tests done later showed that its presence or absence had a factor of 2 on scrolling speed in 2.0.2. (See detailed post of scroll tests by me.) Jerry
