Hm - I have corresponding author in the LyX layout file. Maybe different 
version? I am using
liveTex2011 (or is it texLive2011? I am alwasy mixing it up).

Interesting - in the pdf you link above it seems that \cortext comes after tha 
authors and before
the abstract - but anyway, if I put it in LyX after the abstract, \cortext goes 
there and before the
\maketitle
