Thanks, Stephan. I was discouraged by a guy that helped on the mac support forums not to use things like macports or homebrew. I don't remember the reason, but I've played it safe since. In any case, I went ahead and compiled. Only problem was locating and downloading xcode. [It was my first ever---as I recall--compile.] Seems to have gone through without a hitch.
