Not really. It was while updating the translation of the Tutorial. I
was in an environment

The only special was a \begin_float footnote at the end of the last
sentence of that paragraph. I just tried again deleting the things in
my copy of the text here, but I had no problems.

True. I just thought I'll tell about it. But I'll enable coredumps and
keep en eye on it.
BTW, are there plans to include translations of the docs with the main
LyX distribution, or should that be extra packages?
I know, we are not yet finished with the translations, but some of the
docs are almost up-to-date with the 1.0.0 version. Or is including some
translated texts worse than none?
