looks like, but they are the same Batten & Allen mounted without the side clip.
That is because I found easier to route some signals on a 700 mil
board. Using the pins
with the side clips requires a narrower PCB, I have made both versions anyway.

FWIW I use more flexible adapters from a different source, but Matthew d'Asaro 
has been supplying ROM adapters using those Batten & Allen pins (as well as the 
previous taller version) to the Commodore community for a number of years; last 
I heard he was still selling batches of 50 pins separately:

Brian's post sounds like maybe he's run out of them.

But I don't see what the big deal is; if width is an issue as it is in some 
Commodore models I can see their usefulness but otherwise what's the difference 
from 'normal' pins?

How is height an issue? You can't get closer than flush with the PCB, and if 
you shop carefully some of the pins out there are either the same thickness or 
only slightly thicker than an IC pin.

I use pins from component carriers in my System/Option combo ROMs; they're 
essentially gold-plated IC pins but unfortunately they've become hard to find 
(and more expensive) so if I get any more orders I'll probably use similar pins 
from TE.
