It's a fun little toy. :-)

Practical tip: Since  you won't have the paper manual to practice with,
the big trick to getting the BCR to work seems to be *speed*. You have
to swipe across the bar codes surprisingly fast for it to work.

Or at least *I* found it surprising! :-)

The only other tip I can give: If you unscrew the tip and activate the
wand, you will only see 2 very tiny very dim red dots. This is
apparently normal, and not a sign that the LEDs have died of old age.
I remember other bar code readers had very bright lights, this one...
doesn't.

Practical use? Not so much, I'm afraid. Once you avoid the urge to
inventory all your groceries... I know there's still a thriving
bar-code hobby scene but I'm not connected to it.
