I got my replacement drive today (Panasonic JU-455-5), and all is good! Formatted couple of disks, copied the system disk, etc. Finally fixed something out of this lot :) Well, more like replaced, but who's counting...
The only slight issue was the fact that the mounting holes did not align so I had to mount it to the bottom. I'll have to find a matching one for the top slot.
