This weekend I found a bit of time (and some energy) to play with my old
NADS Box stuff.
I remembered having a handful of boards that needed some TLC before they
could be functional, and another handful that needed A LOT of TLC. I
have looked into those and it looks like I can probably come up with a
dozen (possibly 12 ... maybe 13 or 14) working NADSBoxes from that group
of needing "some TLC". I already have 11 that I know should work (or
can work once I replace broken switches, LEDs, etc.
I have dusted off my PIC programmer and gotten MPLAB loading the last
version of NADSBox firmware. I have probably 2 days of work to get them
working (five of them need a new power switch installed and they all
need to be re-programmed, tested, loaded with recovery firmware,
assembled, labeled, etc.). Plus I have to get about 10-12 more RS-232
25-pin to 9-pin adapters on order and delivered, some more jumper
headers and I have to locate my battery connector wires that I had (or
order some new ones). Plus a dozen CR2032 coin cell batteries, etc. etc.
One condition to getting 4-5 of them working is that the Card Detect
switch on the board is non-functional, which is why I had discounted
them for sale to begin with. But then in about 2010 I added a feature
to the firmware that allows the Write-Protect swtich to be used as a
Card Detect instead. This means that to be detected, the SD card
inserted cannot be write protected. Probably not an issue as using the
NADSBox probably means you want to WRITE to the card anyway.
I suspect I will make an announcement sometime next weekend or during
that week after next weekend about them being for sale. There have been
quite a few people asking about availability, so I guess I will just
have to sell them first-come-first-serve AFTER I make the formal
announcement. I will give everyone maybe a day's notice of the time I
will make the offer. If anyone can think of a better approach, I'm
listening. :) And since there are very few available, please, no
sniping. I have an inventory of those who I have sold units to
previously ;)
