I have successfully used double-sided cellophane tape to stick the copper back down to the plastic end piece.
I first peeled the plastic support off the end, just finishing what was already started. Then rubbed the copper ends on the table with a plastic implement (anything) to flatten them out and get them lined up straight again. Then cleaned the cable end and the plastic support with ipa, cut a piece of permanent double-sided tape and laid it on the plastic support, and then carefully laid the copper ends down onto that.
