On most systems the open file limit per process is 256. M5 opens files
for stdin/stdout/stderr, reading in binaries, etc. So the number is
actually higher. What is the workload you're running? Is this syscall
emulation?
The switch won't help, as you've already turned off the remotegdb
ports, but each workload is going to have a couple of file descriptors
for dealing with stdin/stdout/stderr.
Try playing with ulimit -n either through that or an /etc file you
should be able to raise the number of open files.

fine with M5v2beta3. for beta 4, I'm not sure if I can open so many
files
but I'll try.
Thanks anyway! And let me know when you remember if there is a magic
switch
:)

Are you simulating many systems or many processors? M5 needs a certain
number of open files (just like any other process). You might want to
try to increase the number of open files allowed by using ulimit (or
something similar depending on what OS you're using).

I'm sorry, this doesn't seem to work, I still have the original

Do you have more clues?
Thanks!

If you change the line:
int rgdb_enable = true;
to false in src/sim/system.cc that should solve you problem. I was
almost certain that there was a parameter to set that, but I can't
find it at the moment.

Likely what is happening is the m5 process is running out of file
descriptors. If you expect your simulation to need to open a
lot of
them, you could try to push up that limit. I don't remember
exactly
how
that's done off hand, but I'm pretty sure you need administrative
privileges to do that normally. It could also be that your
simulation is
going berserk and opening a ton of files when it shouldn't,
although
that's not likely since it looks like it hasn't done anything
yet.

Hey all,
While testing my program, I sometimes get the following panic.
What can I do about it? By the way, is there anyway to turn off
