Haven't gone through all the references or looked at the Mail Art 
Encyclopedia site yet but that is a thoughtful and well researched 
piece... very good.

There is a little irony in many artists and the fact that the Art 
World is probably the "purest" form of capitalism that exists... 
because it is the least controlled.

Many of the artists including myself would see some for of socialism 
as the preferred principle of governance.  [although I think most 
would prefer a mixed system of socialism & capitalism...  in reality 
there probably cannot be a "pure" form of either system.. IMO]

I guess I've thought of Mail Art as a form of attack on the sale of 
art & the gallery system... But it also seems like it is a case of 
having one's cake and eating it too... the artist can make "Mail 
Art" and works that have larger economic intentions at the same time.

Some of the earliest Mail Art I ever saw was in fact a form of 
communication between artists and their gallery [& friends]
