Reed thank you for your thoughtful comment. While i decline your invitation to defend my mail as art i would say that I mostly mail DaDa with a few compositional illusions for anyone visual enough to see. I have a general sense of how resistance works to create or exagerate what is being resisted. I am playing with that sometimes. I find prudery silly and socially dangerous. I push edges there when I see the chance. Sometimes people are offended. That is for them. That is their shadow. It has little to do with me or the image I sent. I have my own shadows. There is so little in mail art that seems to have come from a thoughtfull person, all of it more or less in the same socio/political model, all of it on the approved list, all of it carefully self censored to provide nothing. Some mail artists see it as the play it is and respond with thier own weirdness. Others like yourself go to boredom. Isn't that interesting? Reed is bored. Others frightened perhaps. What could that be about? Others exchange. It is my experience that people who exchange are more free. They send what they send. It corresponds to what I sent. I am free to correspond in whatever maner. We are all free in the degree that we are willing to use our freedom. If I sent you some soft core it was clearly a choice I made in the moment of corresepondance with you. There might also be other subtexts. All that I send is not as it seems, nor is it otherwise.
I like Music Master's solution; a gift he gave me more than twenty years ago. Stuff comes in the mail. Fuck with it 'till you're bored or you've ruined it. Mail away all evidence of it. I hope these comments satisfy your curiosity. I encourage your curiosity specifically because of the role you have in your community. Curious is way more functional than bored.
