I can only tell you how it works on my HTC phone, the MyTouch 4G Slide. 1. hold in the power button, usually on the top of the phone.
2. a window will come up with three options: shutdown (or something similar) airplane mode and restart Using the physical trackpad, or arrows, select the option you want, like shutdown, and center click the trackpad. Remember, this window is not part of MA so the screen navigation used in MA apps won't work. You have to use the phone trackpad. To turn the phone back on again, hold in the power button for about a count of 4, then release it. If it's like my phone, the phone will vibrate to let you know it is powering back up.
