I don't see why one would be needed, from what I've seen with almost every mac I've used it shuts down almost instantly.

No, this cannot be done. But personally, I don't think it's really an issue. Maybe it's just that I've grown so accustomed to Mac OS, or maybe it's just my in-built dislike of Windows. I use it because I have too now and then, and it looks as though I'll have too for work, at least in the short term.

But to get back to the question in hand, the simple answer is no, unless there's a separate utility which can create some kind of script to access a sound file when the OS is closing down. But I rout it. Somebody else may know differently, we shall see.
