In practice I have not found this to be a problem as generally the Mac shuts down a lot quicker. ON my IMac I do not shut down but morally put it to sleep with command option escape and it is startlingly quick, pretty much instantaneous really , I can tell the screen just goes black in a blink. . I am not sure how your Mac Book will compare.
If I need to restart the system the Mac does naked a system sounds as it reboots. This is pretty much all I need - instant shut down through sleep and a reboot on the odd occasion for which there are existing sound indicators. What I do find difficult is using the option key to enter boot camp or recovery disc or external drive boot . I cannot see when the menu when boot options comes up so I end up having to count up to 30 and even then I might find myself going back into Mac OS by mistake. It would be great if there was a second system sound when you get to option boot menu. Does VoiceOver stay until it is about to be turned off? Kind of like how iOS devices do it?
