I'll give that another go then, I didn't get a USB external drive to
work on mine and when I went hunting for answers I noted that their were
no options for external drives present for the Airport Express in the
Airport Utility so I just assumed that you could only hook up a printer
to the Airport Express and thus did no further work or research.

I've use the USB port for an external drive. It works fine as far as I
found. I don't recall having to do anything special to get the Mac to see it
either.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the USB port on your Airport

Dane,
I stated that in my message, the USB is intended by Apple for a
printer. My question is can it be used for a external drive? Sometimes Apple
devices can do more then what is stated. For example my Time Capsule is
supposed to be able to run a printer or a external drive but the Apple tech
people tell me off the record that I can hook up to 4 devices using a powered
hub. So my question is can I use my express for a drive with the usb? Is
anyone out there doing that?
Thanks.

Dear list.
I have a Airport express that is extending my network and used for
playing music. there is a USB port on there for a printer. Can that be used
for a external storage drive? If so how do I find it, on my computer, once I
plug it in?
Feel free to tell me I'm being silly and or it can't be done. It's just I have
a old drive and the space over by that machine. A little extra storage never
hurts.
