hello Zack And the point I was trying to make here, but neglected too was that even if you used Fusion and ran your instance of Windows from that using your BC partition which, I am sure, is perfectly possible, that wouldn't enable you to back up the Windows install any more easily. So you'd be looking at a re-installation of Windows using a virtual hard drive which, subsequently, would be extremely easy to backup and re-import at a later time assuming your hardware configuration didn't change. I gather that there are disadvantages as well as advantages with the dynamic hard drive; but it would seem to me that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages if the virtual drive is correctly configured.
We have a Windows 7 installation for those rare occasions where it's needed. But it's a virtual drive and it's a 64-bit configuration of Windows rather than a standard 32-bit. We did try the 32-bit version under Fusion and also under Parallels Desktop but we found that even with a screen-reader, the 64-bit version running under Lion which, as we all know, is a native 64-bit OS in itself, performed better than the 32-bit even in native mode. Our machine has 8GB of RAM installed and what we ended up doing was just configuring the Windows machine to use 4GB and leaving 4GB for OSX. It did work with 2GB assigned for either OS but we ultimately decided that for the sake of simplicity we'd do it that way. I'm not going to go down the road of Windows backup utilities; but there is one which we were recommended by Dane actually and it seems to be quite good. It runs under Windows; so I won't talk about it here. I'll gladly do so on Techno-chat if those who are members are interested. CCC or SuperDuper would not back up any bootcamp partition, you'd need another backup utility to do that. I'm not sure what programs are available for such tasks, as I find CCC adequate for my needs. This is probably a good argument in favor of single-file VM configurations, but that's neither here nor there. THe point to all this is yes, Lynn, you're right. :) <--- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net ---> To reply to this post, please address your message to [email protected] You can find an archive of all messages posted to the Mac-Access forum at either the list's own dedicated web archive: <http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/mac-access/index.html> or at the public Mail Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/>.
