Hi gordon. I don't remember seeing a post on this, but I use my iPhone 3GS as an Internet modem all the time. It is very easy to do. All you do is enable the personal hotspot setting under Settings and when you connect via USB, the mac should automatically see it as a network. This is on the iPhone by the way.
