Do you have a personal hotspot item in the settings menu? I think this
appears once personal hotspot is on from settings, general, network,
personal hotspot.

modem all the time. It is very easy to do.
All you do is enable the personal hotspot setting under Settings and when you
connect via USB, the mac should automatically see it as a network.
This is on the iPhone by the way.
I find it very useful; you can connect via Bluetooth but I haven't worked out
how to do it yet.
