I'm in the same boat as you. I finally gave up bothering to work out how to make GarageBand play nice so am putting all my effort into Amadeus pro. I've asked on list if any one new how to do batch conversion with no response so can't help with that but am starting to make sense of the general recording aspects. Command left or right arrow will select back to or forward to the next marker along the time line. I can't check it now but perhaps using command left arrow will select the portion from the play head to the start or rout the incert point and it may work that way. If you have no luck, I'll be putting some more time into Amadeus tonight Australia time so will play with your issues and see what I come up with.
As for another resource, I just listened to a great episode on basic editing in Amadeus.
