To the best of my knowledge, it doesn't matter if you're on 3g, 4g, edge, GPRS, 
God help you, or LTE.  It's going to rely on whatever data is connected… if 
that be wifi, that is also what it will use.  So yeah, the only exception is if 
you download an app which makes you download the maps locally to the phone such 
as Navigon NOrth America, which by the way, I swear by!
