Reinstalling the OS is a bit overkill in my opinion. I'd not go that route
just quite yet. Maybe as a last resort, but I'd like to see if the list, as
well as myself can help 'em get this solved some other way before going to
that extreme, should it be possible.

I hesitate to suggest anything as I tend to think you will probably have
investigated what follows.
Do you have an application or way of testing which applications are
running and if so, if you close anything you can, do you still have the
issue with the spacebar?
I was also wondering if doing a re-installation of the Operating System
might solve the issue.
