Not the precisely the answer you are looking for but I routinely open documents in Text Edit from the Finder as I find it a lot quicker than the Text Edit open dialogue asking if you want to save to the cloud etc.
I have several blank.docx documents around the Directories I work in. I either use this or another previous file I have worked on and want to edit. In either case I press command D on the file to create a duplicate of the file. It is this duplicate I open and if necessary rename. This also avoids the dialogue you get from TextEdit about unlocking the document to make changes. This obviously leaves the original untouched and safe from harm. You can if necessary delete this original if you are happy with the changes you have made in the duplicated version. A little bit clunky and different to what I do on Windows but, especially with dictation, I have found it a quite quick and safe way of working. I was wondering if when using text edit on a mac running Mavericks if there is a way to have it ask if you wanted to save changes before closing a document? I ask this because I opened something and accidentally changed something and closed it before I hit undo and it did not confirm the change. I looked all over preferences for text edit and could not see anything like that. Any help would be great, Thanks, Matt <--- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net ---> To reply to this post, please address your message to [email protected] You can find an archive of all messages posted to the Mac-Access forum at either the list's own dedicated web archive: <http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/mac-access/index.html> or at the public Mail Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/>.
