HI. Actually I think the problem here could have something to do with the fact that when the display is trying to disconnect voiceOver is still actively doing something, i.e speaking perhaps a disconnection message. So the reason the display is not correctly disengaging is because at the time the connection is being terminated it is still active. So the possible solution to the problem could be to turn off voice over with command f5 now disconnect the usb cable from the mac, thus gracefully terminating the connection and finally hit command f5 again to reenable voice over without braille.
