Hi all

Just a gentle reminder, regarding the content of this message. We ask that you
pleas do not forward mail from different lists on to this one. Also, if you
care to check the list archives, (see the footer of any message posted to the
group to discover where the archives are), you’ll find Eric’s descriptions
there at least twice.

I myself made the same mistake, I should have checked the archive before I
started a similar topic a few months back. But again, this issue is covered in
the archives.

Just to add my own little bit into the mix, based on discussions Ive had with
software engineering elsewhere, the “Bug”, as Sara calls it is probably not a
“Bug” really. It has to do with the changes that were made recently to Apple’s
keyboard drivers in relation to notebook machines. Although the scan codes are
more or less identical, of course, there are other factors which may be causing
the problem. And, somewhat ironically, it has to do with the keyboard
interaction with VoiceOver and gestures.

Apple hacked around a few issues I am told which cause some very rare issues to
occur in software which are so rare that Apple probably doesn’t believe they
warrant the time it would take to find another way around them.

That is probably why, in some cases, these software titles work and not in
others.

I personally have been over all the steps several times, (as outlined on the
website of the software developer). I found that, under Snow Leopard and
below, they work flawlessly. Under Lion or later, I haven’t been able to get
them to work properly at all. Again though , there are other complications.
One of which is the keyboard map being used. The US keyboard layout is
different, for instance, to the British layout. This in turn differs from the
French layout, and so it goes on. Possibly, so speculates my correspondent,
the scan codes differ slightly for non-textual keys such as the caps lock key.

In summary, it seems that the Keyboard Remap utilities may not be the best way
of going about solving this problem. I am going to try good old Sharp Keys
again because it would produce far more localised an, therefore, more versatile
results, in my case at least. I use the caps lock quite a lot under normal
conditions and currently it is disabled. I’m going to do away with that
concept because it seems that it no longer works reliably anyway.
