Your Mac has all the electronic parts on one big circuit board. This is 
called the "motherboard". A CPU is really the processor chip, which is 
just one part of the motherboard. However, it is common for people to 
refer to the whole computer, not including the monitor, as a CPU.

USB is one kind of connector, and FireWire is another. You can buy a PCI 
card (what your computer uses) with USB only or USB and Firewire. They 
both install the same, buy the USB & Firewire one will cost more. You 
can connect printers, digital cameras, and scanners to the USB ports. If 
you want to use newer Video Cameras or if you might want to buy an iPod 
(a kind of mp3 music player) you should consider Firewire. Otherwise, 
it's not necessary.
