I have the exact same drive hooked up to my powerbook G3, and it works like
a champ.  Has it ever worked with your computer, or is it new out of the
box?  Have you confirmed the correct SCSI ID assigned to it, and that the
SCSI cable is in perfect shape?  How about termination?  How is it hooked up
to your SCSI chain?  Maybe you got a bad CDRW out of the box.  Maybe the
firmware needs updating?  Just because SCSI probe sees it, doesn't mean that
it will work.

Frustrating, yes. It seems that you have done your troubleshooting and
eliminated a lot of possibilities, but I think you're getting to the point
where the only other recourse is to send it back and get it fixed and/or
replaced.
