For several years I have been backing up my hard drive contents to an
external SCSI DAT tape drive using Retrospect 4.0. Its been
worthwhile because I have been able to recover files that were lost
for various reasons.

But now .. . . the system locks up just as Retrospect is about to
send data to the tape. If I power off the tape drive, I can regain
control of the System, usually, but sometimes a hard boot is
necessary.

The problem occurs in both OS 8.6 and 9.2.2. The tape drive is "seen"
by Retrospect, The tape is accepted by the tape drive, but is not
"seen" by Retrospect.

It seems that the issue is SCSI but I can't find a fix. Tried with
minimal extensions, and with Norton AV turned off, but no luck.SCSI
scanner works OK.

Any suggestions?

My hardware/Software:

Beige G3/300 Tower rev 3
320 MB RAM
7.8 GB Hard Drive running OS 8.6
60 BB Hard drive running OS 9.2.2 and OS 10.2 in separate partitions
AGFA SnapScan 600 Scanner (SCSI)
laserWriter Pro 630
Canon S530 Inkjet
