Yippi. There are now two awesome Preference Panes which _finally_ make up for Apple's inexcusable oversights in OS X (the Dock SUCKS)!
<rant>The Apple menu and the OS "Application" menu are wasted realestate but what do you expect from a computer manufacturer ridiculed for its Mickey Mouse approach to computing (Apple does good work otherwise, but I have NO use for the first two menus (other than an application's Preferences)... even after two years of using OS X!!!) I'll check out the Apple menu replacement but I am leery of installing third party stuff to do what Apple *should* be providing (considering they did so before)!</rant> #1: ASM (Apple Switcher Menu) provides an "Apple switcher menu", just like in OS 9. The Dock may be a nice app launcher, but it's far worse than even the pathetic Winblows Taskbar as an app switcher (icons just don't work to identify active apps unless they're _really_ _really_ different (which most aren't)) (rock solid stable). <http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=10410&db=mac> <http://www.vercruesse.de/software> #2: Key Xing REINTRODUCES F-key file/app/whatever launching capabilities to your Mac! I have only been using this for 30 minutes so I don't know how stable it is yet. Limitations: Apple restricts the use of F14 and F15 so you can't programme them (& I use F15 b/c it requires no thought to activate)... at least now I can activate e-mail again with F5, iCab with F1 and my default browser with F4 (IE in OS 9, Chimera in OS X). <http://www.versiontracker.com/moreinfo.fcgi?id=11465&db=mac> <jumping for joy>... now it's Apple's turn to incorporate these functions into the OS so we can be guaranteed 100% compatibility. PS One other Preferences pane you may want to check out is TinkerTool! Eric. -- Mac Canada is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
