Hi:
I have a 333 MHz iMac (Purple - color is important : )
It has 96 MB RAM ( 32 in the hidden slot and 64MB in the accessible
slot) and I want to replace the 64 MB DIMM with a 256 MB DIMM and use
this machine as a test system with Panther installed on it. I know
it's going to be slower than many models but if it runs it's good.
I am not sure what kind of RAM I need and where to get it.
One site, that had instructions on how to get at the mother board,
suggested that I need a 144-pin, PC100 SO-DIMM
A RAM site linked from lowendmac has all kinds of different stuff to
choose from:
These 2 look promising...
- 256MB SDRAM PC100
- 256MB SDRAM PC100 (Lower Slot)
but which slot on the iMac is the lower - the one that is on the
exposed side of the mother board (this would be the one lowest in the
mac when sitting upright) or the hidden slot?
Anyone able to assist?
...and recommend a good source for it. I'm in Toronto and could pick
it up if there's a local source. If necessary, I can order it over the
net but I need it in a hurry.
Cheers,
David
Just bought the "good stuff" (256 mb) from DPI Mac in Etobicoke....
contact Gary Smyth - lower slot is the one under the CPU card... upper
is the "easy access" one. Works great.- also have 128 in lower slot,
now running X 3.5
Good luck,
Pete
