I've been using my 1gig eMac for more than a year and I am very satisfied with it. I put in more RAM (total 768: I left the original stick & added a 512, quite easy) absolutely essential for any processor-intensive tasks such as movies or music-making which I imagine your friend won't be doing, so 256k MAY be enough.

No problems with the screen or anything else except a temporary problem sending attachments which was cleared up with OS 10.3.5.

No it can't boot in OS9 but Classic is still available. All in all an excellent machine. You could also think about the new mini-Mac which might work out even cheaper.

Ciao

Paul
