The firewire enclosures are around, although they're a bit more
pricey than the USB 2.0 only ones. OWC does have them, check this
link about 3/4 of the way down the page:

I didn't see anything on FutureShop after a quick search, but
searching for "firewire 5.25 drive enclosure" on TigerDirect.ca
yielded about 5 results. This one looked like the best deal to me
($54, both USB and FW):

Hey!
I'm probably late with this but,. the link below wil take you
(acording to a
colleague that used it with success) a page that has SW to help
one to burn
DVDs in external enclosures.
Idunno...he says it worked like a charm.good luck!

Thanks, anything will help at this point. I've pretty much narrowed
it down
to whatever electronics are in the circuit board in the enclosure.
Everything else has tested okay, firmware was updated and I was
even up
till dawn installing Tiger on a separate partition on the off-
chance the
latest OS might be able to let the burner do its thing via
Firewire. But no
such luck (and I lost an entire partition of files.... back up back
up back
up....)
On the off-chance I can't get this thing working via Firewire (the
USB 1.1
burn has become a 50/50 proposition) does anyone know where I can
either
buy the circuit board to install it myself (3 small screws) or buy the
external enclosure to put the burner into? I've really hit a dead
end on
that -- all the usual places list enclosures for hard drives but
none for
CD/DVD. And while OWC offers the exact same Pioneer DVR-110D for
Mac, they
offer it built into a firewire enclosure and I can't find anything
listed
for purchasing any such enclosure itself.
Thanks
