I just picked up a LaserJet 4 with 10 megs RAM,
a PostScript simm and an internal MIO slot JetDirect
J2550B Ethernet print server. Total cost, $20! :)

After changing the TCP/IP config (two to four times
on some parts because it didn't "stick" when I pressed
Enter) to jive with my LAN I got the JetDirect
firmware updated to the latest version. The printer
works great from both Windows XP and Mac OS 9.1.
HP has a "legacy" utility for the LaserJet 4, 5 and 6
series for Macintosh. Came in handy because someone
had changed the printer's name from LaserJet 4 to
Deskjet 1200C.

Speaking of the DeskJet 1200C/PS, I also picked up
one of those with a PostScript simm, 4 megs RAM built
in (has two empty RAM slots) and good golly-jolly
an HP JetDirect J2341B LocalTalk printserver in the
MIO slot! :) (A PostScript inkjet, never knew there
was such a thing!) So it's only 300DPI, it uses
4 seperate cartridges the size of the black one like
the DeskJet 700 and 800 series use. They're the "40"
style. It needs either new front paper feed rollers
or some surface rejuvenator used on them.

Now I come to the questions! Where can I find out
some more info on the J2341B JetDirect? I searched
and searched at hp.com and all I ever got was two
links to info that in two of the LaserJet 4 series
with two MIO slots, it must go in the lower slot.
Was either that or "no information found" or a list
of every JetDirect HP has ever made EXCEPT the J2341B.

Ooooo, how *helpful*! Not one frigging word about
the _JetDirect_ itself. No drivers, no configuration
utils, no firmware updates, NOTHING. Certainly can't
use the Windows Download Manager because PCs don't
have Mac style serial/LocalTalk/Apple/Talk ports.

Web searches were also un-informative. All I found
was places that have the J2341B for sale. Prices
ranging from near give-away to laughably extortionally
high. But no *information* _about_ the item.

Since it's an MIO card I could plug it into the
LaserJet 4, but no need to since I have the J2550B
ethernet one in it. Before I began fiddling with the
LaserJet, I plugged it's JetDirect into the DeskJet
1200C/PS and printed a test/config page to find
out the settings.
