Yes, I'm very bad at printers.
For other JetDirects, internal and external, HP has the Network Printer Setup Wizard, Web JetAdmin and Download Manager, all for Windows and of course none work with the LocalTalk JetDirects that have the Mac style serial LocalTalk port. Newer JetDirects have built in web servers for config and remote printing, some even allow printing via FTP. (I've no idea how that would work.) Web JetAdmin brings much of the Web functions in the newer JetDirects to the older models. It can be used to setup print queues, configure the JetDirect (I just telnet to the IP of the box) and also setup for remote printing from anywhere in the world via the internet. Of course to do that with the older models and Web JetAdmin you have to leave a PC on all the time to run the web server for the print server. If you have need of that Windows software, do a search on JetDirect EX Plus or J2591A. J2593A is the EX Plus 3, a three port version of the EX Plus. At any rate, I'm pleased as punch with my LaserJet 4 and its internal MIO slot J2550B JetDirect because I can _finally_ print to a laser printer from more than one computer without the hassle of needing to boot whichever box has the printer connected and shared. My next plan is to run a network cable out to the hall and setup the LaserJet IIID with the J2591A. Dunno if the Mac will be able to see it or not, even with the PostScript cartridge installed. The IIID is either PCL _or_ PostScript. To switch, the printer must be turned off and the PostScript cartridge removed or inserted. :P Anyway, at least I'll have a duplexing printer useable from the PCs! ===== "When you are wrestling for possession of a sword, the man with the handle always wins."
