I have an occasional requirement to ethernet a Windows XP laptop to our departments Mac dominated printer network. There are a variety of printers available, but the conveniently located ones are a:

HP Laserjet 4050N and a Lexmark Optra K12202

one suggestion is to assign IP numbers to these printers so they can be directly addressed by the Windows machine. Is this likely to cause problems to the Mac community - which is presumably appletalking to the printers? If so, is there another way to do this?

Thanks
